MAINTAINING YOUR HAIR EXTENSIONS

Keep your extensions looking brand new year-round with these aftercare processes and tips.
Absolutely no damage will be caused to your natural hair by extensions when the correct method is used, the correct weight is installed and they are correctly maintained and removed.
Hair extensions must be maintained and refit every 8-10 weeks (depending on method used) by your qualified hair extension technician.
This is absolutely vital to ensure no damage is done to your own hair or extensions. You may lose anywhere between 5-20 strands
within this time but keep them as these can be re-fitted in your next appointment.
Nano’s/Micros/Mini-Tips or any bonded method must be refit every 8-10 weeks.
Weave methods must be refit every 8-10 weeks.
Tapes must be refit every 6-8 weeks.
AFTER YOUR HAIR INSTALLATION
In the first week or so after your extension installation, expect some discomfort or itchiness while your scalp is getting used to the extra weight that has been applied.
If this proceeds for more than 2 weeks, you may not be using the correct products, or product may be gathering around the bonds where you are not rinsing the product out thoroughly.
WASHING YOUR HAIR, USING HEAT, AND SLEEPING
Please try to use only sulphate free hair products (shampoos, conditioners etc), as some products can shorten the lifespan and quality of hair. We do recommend the use of hair oils, but please only apply this to the lengths of the extensions, as applying all over the hair can cause the hair to bunch together and extensions slip out. If you wish to use conditioner please ensure you use this on the ends only as this can cause extensions to slide out if applied near the roots.
Try not to wash hair extensions more than twice a week as this can cause extra stress to extensions. When washing hair, do not rub the extensions but gently massage the recommended shampoo into the hair and rinse.
Only apply conditioner from the middle to the ends of the hair and lightly press the moisture out of the extensions with a towel after washing. Be extra careful brushing when hair is wet. Heat appliances such as straighteners, hairdryers and curling tongs are of course totally fine to use but as with your natural hair, overuse can cause drying and breakage. Avoid the top of the extensions when applying any heat, as this can damage and melt the bonds.
Never let the hair air dry as this can cause matting and make the extensions difficult to brush. Dry your hair immediately after it is washed focusing on the bonds first, the longer the bonds are wet, the more they become prone to slipping. If the bonds are wet for a long time, the life span of the hair can be reduced. You must always style the hair in a loose plait at night to avoid matting. Using a silk pillow case also helps reduce tangling.
BRUSHING & SEPARATING
Always ensure you use a hair extension brush or tangle teaser to prevent hair extensions slipping. Be gentle and hold the tops of the extensions whilst starting to brush any tangles from the bottom. Do not brush your hair forcefully, or when wet. Ensure you are separating the strands regularly at the root with your fingers to avoid any matting. Natural hair sheds every day so it is vital the bonds are separated so that matting does not occur between the extension and natural hair.
COLOURING HAIR
We do not recommend you colour the extensions as drying may occur and the lifespan of the hair will be shortened. Using toners is acceptable but unnecessary processing may still dry out the extensions. Your own hair can be coloured whilst the extensions are in as long as the chemicals do not touch the tips or bonds. We advise to only have your T-section coloured if necessary.
HOLIDAYS, SWIMMING AND SUNBED USE
We do not recommend you go swimming whilst wearing extensions, although if you do please take extra care and make sure you plait the extensions and try to keep them dry.
Swimming with extensions can cause the hair to matte and tangle. Use a deep conditioning treatment if they do get wet with chlorine or salt water as these can dry out the extensions or cause them to become discoloured. This is not a fault with the hair, but the chemicals and minerals in the water.
UV rays can also dry out, fade or discolour extensions and break down bonds, so wrap the hair in a towel if you do use the sun bed.
Policy
If products recommended by my specialist are not solely used, then the quality and fitting of the hair will be compromised. However, the hair colour may fade and wear and tear may occur over time regardless of aftercare. I understand that the hair quality is the responsibility of the original supplier and not the fitting specialist, and that all supplier procedures must be followed in the event of any issues with the hair extensions themselves.
Any problems with the hair or fitting must be brought to the attention of the specialist within 14 days of fitting. If extensions are coloured, refit or removed by another extensionist, Twenty Two are no longer liable for the hair.
I understand that maintenance appointments are required every 8-10 weeks with the same specialist and an extra £10-15 per week charge will be added after this time depending on hair matting. If extensions are matted, I may need more than one appointment to fix this. I understand that my hair extensions can only be removed by a fully qualified specialist.
I agree to pay a non-refundable booking fee to secure my appointment, which is shown below as a deposit. I have taken part in and agree with the below colours, extensions, costs and appointments. I agree for photos to be taken and stored for advertising purposes and I can be contacted regarding my hair and appointments, inline with GDPR.
Note: You must have clean, dry, straight hair with no products on the day of your fitting appointment.
